"You're not my mother!"

How many of us have heard that? What is the appropriate response? I want to be firm, yet not step on any toes. The kids need to know that although I'm not their mother, I am an adult parental figure in their lives. Yet I also need to make it clear that I'm not trying to replace their mother.

Be patient. They'll come around. I'm dealing with the same thing so I can't really give solid advice, but I know everything will be fine with time. And open communication with your DH is a must, of course.
